Hey, friends! Yesterday was a really good gym day for me! I woke up with very little soreless (that day off did wonders), and decided that I wanted to try and get a really good workout in, in case I wasn’t able to make it into the gym again before Tuesday (Kyle worked an overnight Saturday, and goes back in again this afternoon, so he’s sleeping all day, and the gym is closed Monday for Memorial Day).
I walked to the gym after Liam’s nap, around 3:00 in the afternoon. It was 100 degrees outside (I’m not even exaggerating, we’re in the middle of a horrible heatwave here in Illinois), and I was bright pink, and quite moist, by the time I got to the gym. The manager and the trainer weren’t in, so I did some stretching, and jumped on my usual elliptical.
Oh, did I mention that I shattered my phone screen the other day, and no longer have a phone to bring to the gym for music? Yup. That happened. Ugh.
I ended up watching Who Wants to be A Millionaire? on the little TV above the elliptical, with no sound, because the remote wouldn’t work so I could change it. So, that was… entertaining.
I did 10 minutes on the elliptical, then moved onto the row machine, my favorite. I did 20 minutes on that, with nothing to keep me entertained aside from two men who were spotting each other while lifting weights, and silent infomercials on a TV above my head.
By the time I was finished on the row machine, everyone had cleared out, and I was the only one in the gym. The only one. It was creepy, but so liberating, because I felt brave enough to try out a few new things that I had been to scared to try while other people were around.
Specifically, Jacob’s Ladder. I knew how Jacob’s Ladder worked, and I knew that it was pretty brutal for newbies, but I wanted to give it a go. I strapped myself in, and began climbing.
I made it a full 50 seconds before my heart felt like it was going to explode out of my chest, but 50 seconds is actually decent! My goal was anywhere from 45-60 seconds! I drank an obscene amount of water when I got off the machine, and it took me several minutes to fully catch my breath. Have I mentioned how horribly out of shape I am?
After that, I went to do some super sets with the weights, and ended up doing a full rep of 10/10/10. I still haven’t been able to complete a second rep since the first day I did them. My left shoulder is still really sore and weak when I try. It’s annoying.
After the super sets, I debated whether or not I wanted to leave, since no one was at the gym still, and I didn’t know what to do next. I decided to hop on a treadmill, and do a little more cardio before I headed home. I did 15 minutes at 2.5 mph, and worked up a bit of a sweat, all while watching a really weird show on the little TV. I watched 15 minutes of it, and couldn’t tell you anything about it, even with reading the captions. But, once again, I couldn’t get the remote to work. Oh, well.
Then, dripping sweat, and thoroughly tired, I walked back home in the blazing sun, and collapsed onto my couch.
Today, surprisingly, I am feeling amazing. I have zero soreness, and I have so much energy. Before 10:30 this morning, I had made waffles for my kiddo, ate my first ever slices of avocado toast, did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, started laundry, did kiddo’s ABC and number flashcards with him, finished working on today’s copywriting assignments, tidied and vacuumed the living room, and applied for two more freelance jobs.
And I haven’t even had any caffeine! WHAT?!
Like I said, I am really going to try to make it to the gym today during Liam’s nap, assuming he’ll actually take one today. I have to talk business with the gym manager, so I hope he’s in today as well.
Thanks for reading, friends!
