Gym Blog | Day 19

Today was a day of improvisation. Kyle worked overnight last night, and he is still sleeping as I type this (nearly 2:00 p.m.). He goes back in from 3-11:00 tonight, because the store manager is opening another store in another state, another manager is on vacation, and a third decided that now would be a GREAT time for her to take a four-day weekend, so they are three managers short.

On top of this, my three year old has decided that if he takes a nap during the day, he won’t fall asleep until 11:00 p.m., which is four hours AFTER I put him to bed. However, if I skip his nap, he is a complete terror by dinnertime. I can’t win. We have also been having really severe, overnight thunderstorms for the last three days, and we have two more days of them ahead, so no one has been sleeping well at all in our house. I am always the one thrown into an anxious panic over tornadoes (it’s peak tornado season here in Illinois), and all of these storms always come in the middle of the night. I hate it.

So, I decided to skip kiddo’s nap today entirely, because we all slept in late this morning, and I can not deal with him staying up super late tonight again. We all need sleep. It likely won’t happen, but it’s worth a try.

Anyway, like I said, I had to improvise a bit today in regards to my workout. I didn’t really feel like skipping.

During the time when my son would normally be napping, I decided to do some light cardio, and a core workout. I have no weights at home, or really anything that could safely be used as weights, so doing any of that wasn’t much of an option (someone suggested cans, but knowing me, I’d accidentally toss them into the TV, or drop them on my foot). I started with a little bit of stretching, before doing some steps on my son’s step stool (like I said, improvising).

After steps, I did some standing side bends, sans my usual kettlebells, followed by some quadruped exercises. Lastly, I did 4 sets of 25 penguin crunches, 2 sets of 10 leg raises, and some half-assed bicycles. My abs hurt now.

The entire time, I had a three year old trying to crawl under my stomach, or under my legs, or trying to jump on my stomach, or yelling at me to build a castle with him out of blocks. It was not fun!

Anyway, I’m off to do some laundry, or the dishes, or something. All of these storms have sent my anxiety into overdrive, and I am so sleep deprived, I feel like falling over and dying. I just want to take a nap, but I know that will make me feel worse. My head already feels foggy.

I think I need to invest in some weights for the house whenever I have a little bit of expendable income. With how crazy and random our days have been lately, I’m finding it harder to find time to get to the gym, and I beat myself up when I skip days. Working out from home is better than nothing, right?

Anyway! Thanks for reading, friends. Feel free to check out all of my previous #gymblogs!
