Daily Prompt 7/24/2016 | Clock

Guess I can kiss productivity goodbye.

[In response to The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt 7/24/2016 | Clock]

I only have two hours
While my toddler is asleep
To bathe, and clean the apartment
And find something to eat

The dishes are piled high
And the living room is a mess
But the clock just keeps on ticking
And I’m debating getting dressed. Continue reading “Daily Prompt 7/24/2016 | Clock”

Daily Prompt 6/20/2016 | Summer

Ideal summer for me.

[In response to The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt 6/20/2016 | Summer]

Spiders on windows
Pesky flies in the kitchen
This is summer to me.

Sleeping in later
Is a myth with a toddler
This is summer to me.

Red, chaffed, chubby thighs
Too-easily sunburned skin
This is summer to me.

Parties on my block
Obnoxious noise in the streets
This is summer to me.

Half-filled kiddie pools
And mosquito bites galore
This is summer to me.

Blasting the cool air
Binge-watching Netflix online
Ideal summer for me.

Discover Challenge | Origin Story

The Daily Post Discover Challenge | Origin Story

I am from Fraggle Rock
from finger paints and pictures on the fridge
I am from the trailer in the middle of the woods
from carnations in the garden
and from dandelions in the front yard
which always seemed more beautiful to me.

I am from lazy Christmas mornings and a love of words
from a single mom, who worked too hard
I am from lies, bickering, and broken promises
from “Clean your room.” and “Leave me alone, I’m tired.”
I am from a religion I once believed in
from statues of the Virgin Mary that always gave me nightmares.

I am from Maine, with Europe in my blood
from snow forts and ice castles
I am from a warm kitchen
from canned soup, spicy chicken, and chocolate cake
From an addicted, homeless father
who was never there for me as a child.

I am from the footsteps
washed away with changing tides
but that left a deep impression.

Daily Prompt 2/19/2016 | Forever

The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt 2/19/2016 | Karma Chameleon

“Reincarnation: do you believe in it?”

Final breath taken
Buried in dirt and darkness
Forever with earth.

Daily Post 2/18/2016 | The Blue Policeman

The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt 2/18/2016 | Mad Libs

Turn to your co-workers, kids, Facebook friends, family — anyone who’s accessible — and ask them to suggest an article, an adjective, and a noun. There’s your post title! Now, write.”

Well… I made the mistake of asking Kyle to do this with me, since no one on Twitter wanted to respond, and got… The. Blue. Policeman. Here goes…

The Blue Policeman

Policeman Stan walked down the empty blocks
In the beating heart of Kalamazoo,
Where he passed by shops that sold antique clocks,
And grimaced from the stone stuck in his shoe.

In the distance, he saw a paper mill,
Which once was the pride of the avenue,
Yet now stood tall and dark, in the night still,
Just left abandoned, in a city new.

And as he gawked, he did not stop to think
About the path spread beneath his own feet,
Where an unused container of blue ink
Sat, waiting, dangerously in the street.

It only took one pace, and then he knew,
But then it was too late, and Stan was blue.

Thanks for reading friends! 😉

Random Prompt | Starved Rock

“Describe your favorite place using all five senses.”

In Starved Rock State Park
Trails wind to the top of bluffs
Or into canyons.

Coarse, wooden railings
Line the rugged hiking trails
Causing splintered palms.

The wind blows through trees
Creating songs in the leaves
Calling you outdoors.

The waterfall mist
Mixes with the taste of air
So crisp on my tongue.

Water, earth, and green
Combine into aromas
Revitalizing.
