Today was a good day, you guys! Much better than the last couple of days were. I went into the gym during kiddo’s nap, and got to get in a good upper body workout with my favorite trainer. When I first went in, she was on the elliptical, because one of her PT clients didn’t bother to show up for their appointment. We chatted while I did a 10-minute warmup on the recumbent bike, and she offered to help me get a good workout in, which I am always super thankful for.
My favorite neighborhood gym manager even joined us!
I always feel more comfortable doing my chest and back workouts when she is around, because I easily forget which weights to use for what exercise, and how many reps to do. In fact, I hadn’t even done most of these exercises since the last time I worked with her. She’s really good for my motivation.
I started with alternating sets of chest fly and chest press exercises. I did 3 sets of 15 chest fly exercises with the 10-pound weights, and 3 sets of 15 chest press exercises with the 15-pound weights. It was hard, you guys. I had never done that many before. After that, I did 3 sets of 10 bent-over rows with a 20-pound weight.
Spoiler alert: My arms are currently killing me as I type this, and I can already tell they are going to be super sore tomorrow!
After a brief break to chit chat in the office with the manager and trainer about Instagram business, I returned to the gym for some cardio and core.
Well, a little cardio. I did 2 sets of 25 step ups on the plyo box, and that’s about it, aside from my 10 minutes on the bike earlier.
After that, I did some standing side bends with the 12-pound kettlebell, and a set of 10 squats with the same kettlebell. Then, alternating sets of penguin crunches and leg raises. 2 sets of 25 penguin crunches, and 2 sets of 10 leg raises. They’re getting easier to do, but they still burn, in the best way.
Finally, I sat on the ground, and just stretched a bit. It felt good. I am super sore now though. Owww.
I hung around for a little while, hoping to take some pictures or videos for Instagram, but never got the chance. I did get to check my body fat percentage though, and I am please to announce that I’ve lost nearly 2% (!!!) of my body fat, in just under a month. Fuck yeah!
I’ll be going in tomorrow morning, bright and early, to try to get some done. A huge thunderstorm had rolled in, there was a torrential downpour outside, so I couldn’t walk home. Kyle brought Liam by the gym to take me home, and he loved it. He really liked the manager. Hard to believe this is the same kid who, just a few years ago, wouldn’t even go up to his own grandmother without a bribe of some sort. He loves everyone now. It’s so sweet.
Hopefully I can get some Instagram stuff done tomorrow, and I’m not too sore for some quick cardio in the morning. I’ve been feeling a little stressed out and overwhelmed about getting these Friday posts set up, so hopefully this will help take some of that off my shoulders. I have an article to write for my main job as well, which isn’t due until Sunday, but I have no idea when I will actually sit down and do it.
Anyway, that’s it. I need to go lie down in a tub of ice.
Thanks for reading, friends! Feel free to check out all of my previous #gymblogs!
